Incure SN-23 — Where Stringing Stops on High-Viscosity Dispensing

A dispensing needle sized for medium-viscosity material will let a filled epoxy paste or a tacky high-solid-content adhesive flow between shots when it shouldn’t, producing stringing and satellite drops at the tip. The First Gauge for True High-Viscosity Work

At 0.564 mm inner diameter, the SN-23 marks the entry point into the Sniper range’s high-viscosity territory — materials above 10,000 cP. The SN-20 and SN-21 handle the medium-viscosity band cleanly, but push a filled UV formulation, an epoxy paste, or a tacky high-solid-content adhesive through either one and the bore is simply too open: excess material flows between dispense cycles, and the result is stringing at the tip rather than a clean break-off. At this viscosity range, a narrower bore isn’t a placement refinement — it’s what generates the backpressure needed to hold the material column between shots and let it break cleanly at retract.

That backpressure requirement is the key distinction between the SN-23 and every gauge above it in the range: on a low- or medium-viscosity material, high backpressure is a symptom of an undersized gauge, but on a genuinely high-viscosity paste, that same backpressure is what the process needs to hold the material in check between shots. Sizing the gauge to the viscosity band, not just the desired bead width, is what keeps that distinction from getting confused during process setup.

Why Coating Choice Matters More at This Bore Size

High-viscosity, high-solid-content formulations tend to be inherently tacky, and tackiness at the tip face is what produces the satellite drops and trailing strings that undermine deposit consistency. Nickel PTFE coating is particularly effective on the SN-23 specifically, reducing the adhesion of tacky formulations to the tip face for clean break-off on every shot — a coating choice that matters more here than it does on lower-viscosity gauges, where the material’s own flow characteristics do more of the work.

A satellite drop — a small, unintended droplet deposited alongside the main bead — is often the first visible sign that a coating and viscosity mismatch exists, and it tends to appear well before the stringing itself becomes severe enough to interrupt production. Catching that early signal during a qualification run, rather than waiting for a full stringing failure, is the more reliable way to confirm the SN-23’s coating is correctly matched to the formulation before committing to a production rate.

Non-Ferrous Construction and Fit

The SN-23 is machined from phosphor bronze — non-magnetic, non-ferrous, and chemically inert to UV adhesives, epoxies, cyanoacrylates, and the solvents used across electronics and semiconductor assembly. That construction eliminates ferrous particle contamination risk near sensitive components without requiring a separate magnetic particle sweep. The purple PP Luer Lock hub identifies this bore size immediately during changeovers on production lines cycling through multiple Sniper gauges.

Specifications and Application Fit

The SN-23 has a 0.635 mm outer diameter, an 18 mm nominal overall length, and ships in packs of 10, available in both Phosphor Bronze and Nickel Silver cannula material. The full coating lineup applies: No Coating, Electroless Nickel, Nickel PTFE, Nickel Polymer Type SLK, and Parylene Type C. Recommended materials are high-viscosity UV adhesives above 10,000 cP, filled UV formulations, epoxy pastes, and tacky high-solid-content adhesives, across electronics assembly, semiconductor packaging, and optical bonding.

Positioning in the Sniper Range

For medium-viscosity materials in the 1,000–10,000 cP band, the SN-21 (0.610 mm) and SN-20 (0.681 mm) are the correct fit rather than over-specifying into high-viscosity territory. For even higher viscosity and more heavily filled pastes than the SN-23 is built for, the range continues to SN-25 (0.437 mm), SN-27 (0.335 mm), and SN-30 (0.234 mm) — each step narrower generating more backpressure to hold progressively thicker material. For low-viscosity materials under 1,000 cP, the SN-19 (0.859 mm) and SN-18 (1.039 mm) sit at the opposite end of the range entirely.

Across the full standard range, all Sniper gauges share the same PP Luer Lock hub design and are available in No Coating, Electroless Nickel, or Nickel PTFE at minimum, so dispensing hardware stays consistent as viscosity drives a gauge change.

Stringing is easy to misdiagnose as a formulation problem when it’s actually a gauge-and-coating mismatch — a tacky high-solid-content adhesive that strings badly on an uncoated SN-20 may run cleanly on a Nickel PTFE-coated SN-23 without any change to the adhesive itself. Before reformulating or switching adhesive suppliers to solve a stringing complaint, confirming the gauge and coating are correctly matched to the material’s actual viscosity band is the faster and cheaper diagnostic step.
