Pedal bushings (or internal bearings) are highly sensitive components that require a secure fit to prevent play and creaking, yet they must be routinely disassembled for cleaning, re-greasing, and maintenance. This requires a retaining solution that is strong enough to resist cycling forces but allows for the easiest possible removal.
This is a Functional Low Strength, Easily Serviceable application.
INCURE WeldLock™ 338 Retaining Compound (Yellow)
The INCURE WeldLock™ 338 Retaining Compound is the ideal solution. Although categorized as a high-strength retainer, it is specifically designed for applications where future disassembly is required. This makes it the lowest strength and most serviceable option for components needing frequent maintenance, like internal pedal bushings.
| Key Feature | Performance for Pedal Bushings |
| Serviceable Bond (Yellow) | Designed for assemblies requiring removal or repositioning. Locks the bushing securely but allows for easier, non-destructive removal for cleaning and greasing. |
| Excellent Vibration Resistance | Provides reliable holding power against continuous pedaling forces, eliminating the micromovement that causes creaking. |
| Gap Fill (Up to 0.25mm) | Effectively fills the clearances between the bushing and the pedal body, ensuring a solid, precise feel. |
| Core Application | Suited for secure yet serviceable joints in shafts and housings. |
Application Steps: Installing Pedal Bushings
For optimal retention and reliable, yet removable, installation of pedal bushings, follow these steps:
1. Surface Preparation (The Foundation)
- Clean: Thoroughly clean both the pedal body bore and the bushing’s outer surface. Surfaces must be free of all old grease, oil, and contaminants. Use a cleaner (e.g., isopropyl alcohol or acetone) and wipe dry.
- Activate (If Needed): While usually not required, using a chemical activator can ensure faster, more consistent curing.
2. Product Application
- Apply: Apply a continuous, thin bead of WeldLock™ 338 around the full circumference of the outer surface of the bushing or the internal bore of the pedal body.
- Ensure Coverage: Ensure the adhesive completely wets the entire mating surface as the bushing is inserted.
3. Assembly and Curing
- Assemble: Immediately slide or press the bushing into the pedal body. Ensure the bushing is fully seated and aligned correctly before the compound fixtures.
- Wipe Excess: Remove any excess adhesive visible outside the joint immediately after pressing.
- Cure: Allow the assembly to fixture before handling (typically 10-30 minutes). Allow a full 24 hours for the compound to reach maximum strength before use.
