Securing Printer Roller Bushings for Easy Service

  • Post last modified:October 9, 2025

Printer roller bushings require a precise fit to ensure smooth paper handling and accurate alignment. They must be secured against vibration and rotation but need to be easily removable because rollers and bushings are high-wear components that require frequent maintenance and replacement. This demands a retaining compound with the absolute lowest strength to ensure easy, non-destructive disassembly.

This is a Functional Low Strength, Easily Serviceable application.

INCURE WeldLock™ 338 Retaining Compound (Yellow)

The INCURE WeldLock™ 338 Retaining Compound is the functional low-to-medium strength solution. Although it provides good holding power, it is specifically designed for applications where future disassembly is required. This makes it the most serviceable and lowest-strength option available that still provides the necessary anti-vibration qualities.

Key FeaturePerformance for Printer Roller Bushings
Serviceable Bond (Yellow)Designed for assemblies requiring easy removal or repositioning. Locks the bushing securely but allows for simple, non-destructive separation for routine roller replacement.
Excellent Vibration ResistanceProvides reliable holding power against motor vibration and rotational forces, preventing play that causes misalignment and jamming.
Gap Fill (Up to 0.25mm)Effectively fills the small clearances, ensuring a solid, unified interface for precise roller positioning.
Core ApplicationSuited for secure yet serviceable joints in precision light-duty machinery.

Application Steps: Installing Printer Roller Bushings

For optimal concentricity and reliable, yet removable, installation of the bushings, follow these steps:

1. Surface Preparation

  1. Clean: Thoroughly clean the housing bore and the bushing’s outer surface. Surfaces must be absolutely free of toner, paper dust, grease, and oil. Use a cleaner (e.g., isopropyl alcohol or acetone) and wipe dry.
  2. Activate (If Needed): Due to the small size and the need for quick cure times in assembly, applying a chemical activator can ensure faster, more consistent curing.

2. Product Application

  1. Apply: Apply a minimal, continuous, thin bead of WeldLock™ 338 around the full circumference of either the outer surface of the bushing or the internal bore of the housing.
  2. Ensure Coverage: Ensure the adhesive completely wets the entire mating surface as the components slide together.

3. Assembly and Curing

  1. Assemble: Immediately slide or press the bushing into the housing bore. Ensure the components are aligned correctly.
  2. Wipe Excess: Remove any excess adhesive visible outside the joint immediately after assembly.
  3. Cure: Allow the assembly to fixture before handling (typically 10-30 minutes). Allow a full 24 hours for the compound to reach maximum strength before placing the printer back into service.
