Sealing Landing Gear Actuator Bodies Against Failure

  • Post last modified:November 15, 2025

Landing gear actuator bodies are seals for one of the most critical, high-stress components on an aircraft. They must contain extremely high-pressure hydraulic fluid, endure constant vibration and fatigue loading during flight, and withstand massive shock loads during landing. A leak or seal failure in the actuator housing compromises structural integrity, leads to a rapid loss of hydraulic pressure, and results in catastrophic component failure.

Don’t compromise passenger safety or operational integrity with seals that cannot handle relentless, high-pressure duty.

INCURE HeatGrip™ 503 High-Temp Anaerobic Flange Sealant

Landing gear components are built with extremely high-tolerance, rigid, precision-machined flanges (often high-strength aluminum alloys or titanium). These require a seal that is rigid and high-strength to maintain dimensional alignment under extreme pressure. The INCURE HeatGrip™ 503 is engineered for these extreme operating conditions, creating a rigid, chemically inert barrier essential for accurate, high-pressure fluid containment.

Feature & BenefitTechnical Insight for Actuator BodiesConversion Value
Superior Pressure ResistanceCures to an extremely high-strength, rigid plastic that provides maximum resistance to the high internal fluid pressures typical of aerospace hydraulic systems.Lock in the Force:
Achieve an absolute, permanent seal that maximizes actuator power and reliability.
High-Temperature StabilityRated for continuous operation up to 200∘C (392∘F), ensuring the rigid seal remains stable under high friction and operational thermal load.End the Thermal Threat:
Get a seal that won’t weaken or degrade, even in the hottest hydraulic loops.
Hydraulic Fluid ImmunityChemically inert to aerospace hydraulic fluids (e.g., Skydrol, mineral oil types), preventing the sealant from breaking down or contaminating the system.Protect Your System:
Ensure the sealant won’t compromise the cleanliness or function of the critical hydraulic fluid.
Minimal Gap SealingThe 503 is ideal for close-tolerance, rigid flanges typical of precision-machined aerospace components, forming a perfect, gap-free seal.Precision for Safety:
Trust a rigid seal designed to maintain the tight tolerances essential for flight-critical components.

Application Steps: Sealing Landing Gear Actuator Bodies for Permanent Integrity

Preparation (Zero Contamination): Thoroughly clean both flange faces—remove all previous gasket material, residue, and all traces of hydraulic oil. Use an aerospace-approved degreasing solvent (like acetone or specified cleaner) and wipe until the metal surfaces are perfectly dry and spotless.

Application: Apply a continuous, thin bead of HeatGrip™ 503 onto one flange face, circling all bolt holes. Use a roller or spreader to create a uniform, thin film across the entire mating surface.

Assembly: Immediately mate the end cover to the actuator casing (within 5 minutes). Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specified pattern and value to ensure even clamping and proper anaerobic curing.

Curing Time (Critical): Allow a full 24 hours for the sealant to cure completely. This cure time is mandatory to achieve maximum pressure and thermal resistance before introducing fluid and subjecting the actuator to operational pressures.

Stop risking leaks and maximize your operational safety and aircraft reliability.
