Securing Oil Pan Bolts Against Vibration and Oil Leaks

  • Post last modified:October 10, 2025

Oil pan bolts operate under deceptively demanding conditions. While not subject to extreme heat like exhaust components, they must constantly endure engine vibration, repetitive thermal cycling, and, most critically, saturation by hot engine oil. A failed or loosened oil pan bolt can lead to a minor but persistent leak, which compromises the oil level, dirties the undercarriage, and can lead to major engine damage if ignored.

Don’t rely solely on a gasket to contain your oil; fortify your fasteners against leaks and loosening.

INCURE Re-Lok™ B43 Blue Standard Duty Threadlocking Adhesive

For most oil pan applications, where the bolts must be secure but accessible for gasket replacement, a medium-strength product is ideal. The INCURE Re-Lok™ B43 Blue is specifically engineered with oil tolerance to achieve a reliable cure even if trace amounts of engine oil are present on the threads, providing both a secure lock and a leak-proof seal.

Feature & BenefitTechnical Insight for Oil Pan BoltsConversion Value
Oil-Tolerant CuringFormulated to cure effectively on oily or inert surfaces, ensuring a reliable bond even where residual oil contamination is unavoidable.Zero Compromise: Achieve a strong lock and seal despite the typically messy engine environment.
Medium Strength (Standard Duty)Provides a secure, anti-vibration lock for fasteners up to M20, but still permits bolt removal using standard hand tools when maintenance is required.Ready for Maintenance: Secure the pan for operation while retaining the ability to easily drop the pan when needed.
Sealing Action (Gap-Filling)Cures inside the thread pitch, filling all microscopic gaps to create a perfect, leak-proof seal that stops oil from wicking along the bolt threads.Prevent Weeping Leaks: Eliminate the common issue of oil weeping past the bolt threads, protecting your shop floor.
Fast Curing SpeedReaches initial cure in 20 minutes, minimizing downtime and allowing the vehicle or equipment to be refilled with oil sooner.Fast Fix: Accelerate your assembly process with quick-curing confidence.

Application Steps: Sealing Oil Pan Bolts for Leak-Free Performance

Preparation (Key to Success): While the B43 is oil-tolerant, for best results, wipe down the threads of the bolts and the receiving threads in the engine block with a clean cloth and a degreasing solvent to remove any heavy accumulation of oil or residue.

Application: Apply a continuous, thin bead of Re-Lok™ B43 Blue to the leading three-quarters of the oil pan bolt threads. Be careful to avoid coating the very tip to prevent adhesive from being pushed inside the engine.

Assembly: Install the gasket and oil pan. Hand-start the bolts, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specified value in the correct tightening sequence (typically a crisscross pattern) to ensure even pan clamping.

Curing Time (Critical): Allow a minimum of 24 hours for the adhesive to fully cure and achieve maximum resistance to hot engine oil before filling the engine with fresh oil and running the machinery.

Stop risking minor leaks that become major problems and secure your oil pan with chemical certainty.
