Curing Small Batches

Practice on scrap blanks until the shot size gives the dome height you want, then run the batch without adjusting.

Embedding Elements

UV-curable dome resin cures fast enough to suspend small objects in place. Cure a thin base layer, set the element such as a pressed flower, a photo, or a metal charm, then flood and cure the top layer. Because each pass cures in seconds, the object cannot drift or float as it can in a slow two-part pour. Keep each layer within the cure depth of your lamp so nothing is left soft underneath.

Durability for Worn and Displayed Pieces

A worn piece sees abrasion, skin oils, and moisture. A displayed piece sees light and temperature swings. Cast-Max 1045 cures to a hard, sealed surface that resists scuffing and cleans with a damp cloth. For pieces that will spend time outdoors, confirm UV stability over the expected exposure.

Repairing and Reworking a Dome

A UV-curable dome that comes out flawed can often be saved. A minor surface defect can be sanded flat with fine wet paper and re-coated with a thin flood layer, which cures clear over the sanded area. A trapped bubble near the surface can be opened with a pin, filled with a drop of fresh resin, and re-cured. Because each pass cures in seconds, rework does not mean waiting a day, and a second thin layer bonds well to a clean cured first layer. Deeper flaws that reach the artwork usually mean starting the piece over.
