Incure SN-21 — Precision Bead Control Within the Medium-Viscosity Band

The SN-20 covers most medium-viscosity dispensing cleanly, but close-pitch bond pads and micro-well deposition often need a tighter bead than even that entry-point gauge delivers. The Incure Sniper SN-21 narrows the placement without leaving the medium-viscosity range.

A Deliberate Step Down From the SN-20

At 0.610 mm inner diameter — 10% narrower than the SN-20’s 0.681 mm — the SN-21 stays within the same 1,000–10,000 cP medium-viscosity band while delivering a measurably tighter bead. That 10% reduction is a precise adjustment rather than a jump into a different viscosity category: the SN-21 places the identical medium-viscosity adhesives the SN-20 handles onto bond pads where the wider gauge over-fills, without changing the adhesive, the dispense pressure, or the dispense speed to compensate.

Because the reduction is incremental rather than categorical, the SN-21 is often the correct next step to try before assuming a process needs a fundamentally different approach — reformulating the adhesive to a lower viscosity, or moving to a non-contact jetting system — when the actual problem is simply that the current gauge’s bead is a fraction too wide for the pad.

Semiconductor under-fill, optical bonding on close-pitch surfaces, and micro-well deposition are the applications where this distinction matters most — cases where bead width itself is the governing parameter for a successful deposit, not flow rate or cycle time. When a process is otherwise dialed in on the SN-20 but the bead is still slightly too wide for the pad geometry, stepping to the SN-21 is often the correct fix rather than re-tuning pressure or speed.

Close-pitch bond pad spacing in particular tends to punish an oversized bead disproportionately — a deposit that’s only marginally wider than intended on an isolated pad may bridge to a neighboring feature entirely once pad spacing drops below a certain threshold, making the SN-21’s tighter placement a functional requirement rather than a refinement on those layouts.

Non-Ferrous Construction, Consistent Across the Range

The SN-21 shares the same phosphor bronze construction as every gauge in the standard Sniper line — non-magnetic, non-ferrous, and chemically inert to UV adhesives, epoxies, cyanoacrylates, and the solvents common in electronics assembly. No magnetic particle sweep is required between dispensing operations, a property that carries equal weight whether the assembly is a magnetic sensor, an HDD component, or a precision optical alignment part. The light blue PP Luer Lock hub identifies this specific bore size at a glance during changeovers on lines running several Sniper gauges.

That chemical inertness also means the SN-21’s bore geometry stays stable through repeated exposure to the medium-viscosity adhesives it’s built for, rather than gradually widening or roughening from chemical attack over the needle’s service life — a real consideration on close-pitch applications where even minor bore degradation can measurably affect bead width consistency over time.

Specifications and Application Fit

The SN-21 has a 0.810 mm outer diameter, an 18 mm nominal overall length, and ships in packs of 10. The full coating lineup applies: No Coating, Electroless Nickel, Nickel PTFE, Nickel Polymer Type SLK, and Parylene Type C. Recommended materials are medium-viscosity UV adhesives in the 1,000–10,000 cP range, light one-part epoxies, thickened cyanoacrylates, and close-pitch bond-pad applications, spanning semiconductor assembly, electronics bonding, and optical bonding.

Positioning in the Sniper Range

For a wider medium-viscosity deposit where bead width isn’t the limiting constraint, the SN-20 at 0.681 mm runs at somewhat lower backpressure. For low-viscosity materials under 1,000 cP, the SN-19 (0.859 mm) and SN-18 (1.039 mm) offer higher flow than either medium-viscosity gauge needs. Moving into high-viscosity territory above 10,000 cP, the SN-23 (0.564 mm), SN-25 (0.437 mm), SN-27 (0.335 mm), and SN-30 (0.234 mm) handle gels and filled formulations that the SN-21 isn’t sized for.

The full standard range shares a common PP Luer Lock hub and is available in No Coating, Electroless Nickel, or Nickel PTFE at minimum across every gauge, keeping barrel and dispenser hardware consistent through a viscosity-driven gauge change.

Because the SN-20-to-SN-21 step is a modest 10% bore reduction rather than a jump to a different viscosity class, process parameters transfer over with minimal retuning — the same pump pressure and dispense speed that worked on the SN-20 typically need only small adjustment on the SN-21, rather than a full requalification of the dispensing recipe. That makes the SN-21 a low-risk substitution to test whenever a bead-width complaint surfaces on an otherwise-working SN-20 process.
