Retaining Wheel Hub Bearings for Safety and Reliability

  • Post last modified:October 10, 2025

Securing wheel hub bearings (especially the outer race into the hub, or the inner race onto the spindle/shaft) is a highly safety-critical application. This joint is subjected to relentless radial loads, massive axial shock (potholes/curbs), continuous vibration, and significant heat generated during braking and friction. Hub bearings rely on a precise press fit, but micro-movement over time can lead to fretting corrosion, bearing failure, and ultimately, loss of control. A high-strength retaining compound eliminates this clearance, creating a rigid, slip-free bond that ensures maximum bearing life and vehicle safety.

INCURE WeldLock™ 365 Retaining Compound

For securing wheel hub bearings—where maximum shear strengthhigh-temperature resistance, and resistance to shock are paramount—the WeldLock™ 365 provides the highest structural integrity. Its superior strength prevents the bearing from spinning in the housing and maintains precise fitment, even under the harshest road conditions and braking loads.

Feature & BenefitTechnical Insight for Wheel Hub BearingsConversion Value
Highest Strength (365)Cures to an extremely high-shear strength, rigid plastic, providing maximum resistance to radial and axial shock loads.Zero Fretting:
Eliminates all micro-movement, stopping wear and maintaining precise bearing fit for life.
High Temperature ResistanceWithstands continuous operational temperatures up to 200∘C (392∘F), essential for hubs exposed to brake heat.End the Heat Threat: Guarantees the joint won’t fail or soften under the hottest operational conditions.
Fills Close Clearance GapsIdeal for components with an interference or true close-tolerance slip fit (less than 0.05 mm diametral clearance) typical of precision hub assemblies.Maximizes Contact:
Converts the press fit into a monolithic, integrated component, optimizing load distribution.
Fluid ImmunityInert to grease, road salts, and moisture, ensuring the integrity of the joint is protected within the wheel environment.Reliability Assured:
The bond remains permanently intact despite environmental exposure.

Application Steps: Locking Hub Bearings for Maximum Vehicle Safety

Preparation (Critical): Thoroughly clean both the bearing mating surface and the hub/spindle bore. Remove all grease, rust, dirt, and residue. Use a degreasing solvent (like acetone or brake cleaner) and wipe until both metal surfaces are perfectly dry.

Application: Apply a continuous, liberal bead of WeldLock™ 365 evenly around the bore of the housing/hub, or around the outer race of the bearing. Ensure the compound completely covers the mating area.

Assembly: Press the bearing into the hub or onto the spindle using the manufacturer’s specified pressing tools. Ensure the bearing is seated correctly. Wipe away any excess compound immediately.

Curing Time (Mandatory): Allow a full 24 hours for the compound to reach full cure strength before mounting the wheel and subjecting the vehicle to road loads.

Alternative Consideration (Worn Hubs): If the bore of the hub is worn and the clearance gap is larger (up to 0.25 mm), use INCURE WeldLock™ 356 (Metallic Grey). This compound is specifically formulated with fillers to tolerate larger diametrical clearances while still providing high structural integrity.

Stop risking bearing failure and ensure your wheel hub assemblies are absolutely secure.
