UV Flood Curing Systems for Industrial Adhesive and Coating Lines
A UV flood lamp cures adhesives, inks, and coatings across a broad area in one exposure, without the fixturing and traverse motion a spot system needs. For batch assembly and small-part production, a compact flood lamp is often the fastest path from dispense to cured part. How Flood Curing Works A flood system floods a defined area with ultraviolet energy from a single overhead source. The lamp head sits at a fixed height above the work, and every part placed in the illuminated zone receives light at the same time. This makes flood curing well suited to parts with adhesive in several locations, irregular geometry, or a bond line that would be slow to trace with a focused beam. Two lamp technologies dominate. Metal halide arc lamps produce a broad spectrum from roughly 200 to 450 nm, useful when an adhesive is formulated for multiple photoinitiators. UV LED arrays emit a narrow band, typically centered at 365, 385, 395, or 405 nm, and offer instant on-off, low heat, and long service life. The choice depends on the chemistry you are curing. The Incure F-Series Compact Flood Lamps Incure's F-Series covers the compact end of the flood range. Models such as the F100 and F200 use a long-life metal halide type lamp with a parabolic reflector, delivering an even UVA output over roughly an 8 by 6 inch curing area. The F100 runs at a nominal 400 watt lamp and the F200 at 600 watt, with irradiance in the region of 100 mW/cm² at the working plane. Getting the Dose Right Cure quality depends on delivered dose, measured in mJ/cm², which is irradiance multiplied by exposure time. An adhesive data sheet will specify a minimum dose at a given wavelength. To hit it reliably: Measure, do not assume. Use a UV radiometer at the actual working plane. Irradiance falls off with the square of distance, so a few centimeters of height change moves the number significantly. Account for lamp aging. Arc lamp output declines over hundreds of hours. Log run hours and re-measure periodically, then lengthen exposure or replace the bulb before parts fall out of spec. Watch shadowed areas. Any bond line the light cannot reach directly will undercure. Redesign the joint for line of sight, or use a dual-cure adhesive with a secondary moisture or heat mechanism. Control…
