A spot-cure lamp sits in a cabinet, but the adhesive is on a part in a fixture across the bench. The light guide is what bridges that gap, carrying UV or visible energy along a flexible path to exactly the joint that needs it. What a Liquid Light Guide Is A liquid light guide is a flexible tube with a transparent fluid core and a cladding that keeps light trapped by total internal reflection. The liquid core transmits a broad band, roughly 320 to 700 nm, which covers the UV-A and visible wavelengths used to cure adhesives. Compared with a bundle of glass fibers, a liquid guide transmits more energy per unit area in the UV, tolerates tighter bends without breaking individual fibers, and gives a more uniform spot. The trade-off is a limited length before absorption losses matter and a minimum bend radius that must be respected. Why Use a Guide Instead of a Direct Lamp Reach: cure joints inside fixtures, enclosures, or automated cells the lamp head cannot approach. Lower heat at the work: the guide passes light while leaving much of the lamp's infrared behind, protecting temperature-sensitive parts. Flexibility: the tip can be positioned and angled by hand or on a robot to follow an irregular bond line. Focused delivery: energy goes to the joint, not the whole workpiece. Suited to precise, high-intensity cure of a small joint, or where only one location needs light. Bifurcated (two-pole), trifurcated (three-pole), and four-pole: one input end splits into multiple output legs so several joints cure at once. The lamp's energy divides among the legs, so each output delivers roughly one over N of the single-pole intensity. This is efficient when parts have multiple bonds at similar spacing and cycle time matters more than peak intensity at any one point. Choose a multi-pole guide only when the reduced per-leg intensity still cures the adhesive in the available time. If one joint needs high intensity, give it a dedicated single-pole guide. The legs of a multi-pole guide should also be close to equal length, because a longer leg loses more transmission and delivers less energy than its siblings, producing uneven cure across the part unless the exposure time is set for the weakest leg. Specifying a Guide Core diameter: common sizes are 3, 5, and 8 mm. A larger core carries more total energy but is stiffer and gives a wider spot. Length: long enough to reach with a comfortable service loop, but every extra meter costs transmission. Order the shortest guide that works.
